Bedroom Headboard Walls with Wood Wall Panels
Turn the wall behind your bed into a built-in headboard with wood or fluted panels. Layouts, colour choices and prices from RM25/sqft.
The wall behind your bed is the first thing you see when you walk into a bedroom and the last thing you lean against at night. Panelling it turns a plain surface into a built-in headboard that feels calm, warm and deliberate. Wood and fluted panels are the natural choice here, and with a few planning decisions you can make the wall feel custom to your room.
Why a panelled wall works as a headboard
A standalone headboard is a piece of furniture. A panelled wall is part of the room. That shift brings some practical and visual benefits.
It anchors the bed
A panelled section gives the bed a clear frame, so the room has an obvious focal point. Even a simple bed frame looks finished when it sits against a wall of timber-look planks.
It works in smaller rooms
Condo and terrace-house bedrooms are rarely generous. A wall panel adds almost no depth, so you get the look of a statement headboard without losing floor space between the bed and the wardrobe.
It protects the wall
Pillows, hands and the backs of heads leave marks on paint over time. A panel surface can be wiped with a damp cloth, which is far easier than repainting.

Planning the layout
Before choosing a colour, decide how much of the wall the panels will cover. This affects both the look and the quotation.
Height: half wall or full height
Half-height panelling
Panels running from the floor to just above the headboard height, with paint above, feel cosy and traditional. A slim ledge or a change in colour at the top line gives the wall a neat finish.
Floor-to-ceiling panelling
Running panels all the way up makes the ceiling feel higher, especially with vertical flutes. It reads as more architectural and suits rooms with clean, modern furniture.
Width: the bed zone or the full wall
You can panel just the area behind the bed, extending a little past each bedside table, or the full width from corner to corner. A bed-zone panel works like a framed headboard. A full-width wall makes the room feel wider and is easier to align with existing corners and windows.
Planning for sockets and lights
- Mark where bedside sockets and switches sit so panels can be cut neatly around them.
- Decide on wall lights or reading lamps early if you want them mounted on the panel.
- If you plan LED strip lighting along the top edge, mention it in your enquiry.
Choosing wood or fluted, light or dark
Wood-grain planks
Wood-grain panels give a relaxed, natural look. Horizontal planks widen a narrow wall; vertical planks lift a low one. Mid-brown tones pair easily with white linen and soft lighting.

Fluted panels
Fluted panels have rounded vertical channels that catch light and shadow. They give a headboard wall gentle texture and a slightly hotel-like feel, which works well with upholstered beds and brass or black lamps.
Picking a tone
- Light oak tones keep a small room bright and airy.
- Mid walnut tones feel warm and suit most bedding colours.
- Dark tones make a room feel enclosed and restful, best where there is good daylight or a large window.
A note on mixing materials
If you want more drama, a marble-look panel in Gold, Silver or Black can sit behind the bed with wood on either side. Marble panels are priced in a separate line, covered below.
Keeping a bedroom wall looking good
Bedrooms see less splashing than kitchens, but humidity still matters. Keep the room ventilated, wipe the panels with a damp cloth when needed, and use mild soap once a month for a fuller clean. Avoid abrasive cleaners and scouring pads, and keep wood panels dry, wiping any spilled drink straight away.
Bedside habits that help
Leave a small gap between the bed frame and the wall so the headboard does not rub the panels. If you keep a glass of water at the bedside, a coaster on the table is enough to protect the nearby panel edge.
